Window repairs

Stiff, draughty or loose? Fix the failed component.

Most everyday uPVC window faults are mechanical. Worn hinges, handles, locking strips and seals can often be repaired without changing the frame.

Common faults

Repairs for the parts that do the work.

  • Friction hinges that no longer pull the sash in tightly
  • Broken, loose or jammed window handles
  • Failed espagnolette or multipoint locking mechanisms
  • Draughts caused by alignment, hinges or tired seals
  • Windows that catch, drop or need force to close

Hinges & alignment

The draught may not be the seal.

If a worn hinge lets the sash sit away from the frame, changing the rubber alone will not restore proper compression. Alignment and hinge condition need checked together.

Locks & handles

Do not keep forcing the handle.

A stiff handle can be the symptom of a mechanism or alignment fault. Continuing to force it can turn a smaller repair into a broken gearbox or handle.
